If a policyholder wishes to the allow a 3rd party to act on their behalf in response to a specific situation, ie a solicitor because they are defending a no insurance charge or a loss assessor assisting with a claim, they should supply authority for them in writing and the file should be clearly noted.
These parties can only be given information that relates to the purpose for the authority being supplied by the policyholder. So, a loss assessor following up on a claim is entitled to information relevant to the claim and no more, if they require information that seems to exceed the policyholder’s authority then they should ask the policyholder to contact us and confirm this is okay.
