These are a group of legal arrangements to allow a 3rd party to manage the affairs of another party. In some cases they are done with the persons agreement while in others may be the result of a court order or other legal process.
If a policyholder advises us that they are granting someone POA or if someone advises they have POA, Controllership, Guardianship or other legal authority to act on behalf of a policyholder we should ask for a copy of the relevant document to be sent to us, an email copy is fine.
Once this is received then the client record and policy diary should be noted with the details of the authorised party so anyone coming into the file later will be aware. As with any document supplied a copy should be saved behind the client record.
If there are any queries about what to do with it refer to Group Compliance for advice.
